Former Student Gains Major Settlement after Enduring Years of Harassment

A former student who endured severe and persistent harassment throughout junior high and high school has gained a major settlement from the Aberdeen School District, the ACLU of Washington announced today. The ACLU has represented Russell Dickerson III in a lawsuit saying that school district officials were aware of the harassment but failed to take steps reasonably calculated to end it. Read More »

The ACLU-WA presented its annual Bill of Rights awards to Seattle social justice attorney Peter Greenfield, Yakima Valley community advocates Paula Zambrano and Patricia Flores, and youth activist Gaby Rodriguez of Toppenish. Lawsuit to Uphold Free Speech Rights on Metro Buses Moves to Appeals Court

The ACLU-WA is appealing to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in its lawsuit for the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign challenging King County’s cancellation of the group’s paid bus ad. Lawsuit Seeks Access to Information on Internet For Adult Library Patrons

 Oral argument is being held on Oct. 25 in an ACLU lawsuit defending the rights of adults to access information on the Internet on public library computers. The suit challenges a central Washington library system’s filtering policy that hampers adults in researching school assignments, locating businesses and organizations, and doing personal reading on lawful subjects.   Read More »
 

Innovative LEAD Project Sends Drug Offenders to Services Instead of Jail

A unique coalition of government officials, law enforcement agencies, and community groups – including the ACLU-WA – are backing the  innovative new LEAD program. The ACLU-WA announced it will proceed with a lawsuit on behalf of the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign, seeking to have King County honor its contract to carry the Campaign’s approved ad on Metro buses. ACLU Joins Lawsuit over Cities’ Shockingly Deficient Public Defense System

The ACLU of Washington has joined a class action lawsuit filed against Mount Vernon and Burlington over the cities’ failure to provide meaningful assistance of counsel to indigent persons who face criminal charges in municipal court. Secure Mobile Chat App Wins Develop for Privacy Challenge
