Public Forum: Where is Marijuana Reform Heading?

The ACLU-WA presents a discussion on the history, current status, and future of marijuana law reform in Washington and the United States. Panelists include travel writer Rick Steves and national leaders in reform efforts. Free and open to the public. More
 

Policy Accountability Conference

Date: Monday, September 20, 2010 (All day) - Thursday, September 23, 2010 (All day)
Location: Fairmont Olympic, 411 University Street, Seattle
The ACLU-WA co-sponsors the annual National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) Conference, themed “Promoting Excellence” in law enforcement and civilian oversight. Presentations cover a range of topics, including police response to the mentally ill, criminal investigations of officers, workplace retaliation, policing mass protests, in-custody deaths, and discipline alternatives.  ACLU-WA Deputy Director Jennifer Shaw speaks on Thursday’s panel, “Deadly Force Investigations: Important Considerations and Investigative Techniques.” Info and registration at www.nacole.org.
 

Death Penalty Law & Policy

Continuing education for attorneys. The ACLU of Washington Whatcom County Chapter presents a talk on the history of capital punishment in Washington and current litigation and legislative efforts challenging the death penalty locally and nationally. Featuring Mark Larrañaga, former director of the Death Penalty Resource Center and Seattle University Law School adjunct professor. Free and open to the public.

"Law & Liberty" Continuing Legal Education Series

May 7, 2010
The ACLU-WA presents free or low-cost seminars presenting overviews of vital civil rights and civil liberties issues. Each class covers historical perspectives on landmark cases and updates on current law and policy.
 

Monthly: "Speaking of Freedom"

July 27, 2010
Civil Liberties on TV: Communications Director Doug Honig interviews guests on timely issues on the ACLU-WA's show on cable TV. Airs monthly on the Seattle Community Access Network (Comcast 77/Broadstripe 23); streaming live on the web at www.scantv.org. Later rebroadcast on cable systems in Clark, Cowlitz, Thurston, and Snohomish counties.

July show features Linda Mangel, ACLU-WA Education Equity Director, discussing equal opportunities for girls and women in education and sports programs under the landmark Title IX law.
