Continuing education for attorneys. The ACLU of Washington Whatcom County Chapter presents a talk on the history of capital punishment in Washington and current litigation and legislative efforts challenging the death penalty locally and nationally.  Featuring Mark Larrañaga, former director of the Death Penalty Resource Center and Seattle University Law School adjunct professor. Free and open to the public.

The conversation continues at an informal reception with Whatcom County Chapter leaders.

Mark A. Larrañaga is an attorney with Walsh & Larrañaga in Seattle, Washington.  He is deemed “learned counsel” under 18 U.S.C. 3005 for federal capital cases and is qualified by the Washington State Supreme Court under Special Proceeding (SPRC) 2 to be lead counsel in capital trials, capital direct appeals, and capital post-convictions. Mr. Larrañaga was the director of Washington state’s first Death Penalty Resource Center, which provides resources, training, and consultation to capital defense attorneys throughout Washington state.  He is an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law where he teaches a capital punishment course.
