ACLU-WA Receives Award for Racial Justice Work
The Minority Executive Directors Coalition (MEDC) of King County has presented the ACLU-WA its Founders Award for our work calling for a Department of Justice investigation of the Seattle Police Department and advocating for communities of color. We received the award at the MEDC's 30th Anniversary Awards Banquet on October 22. The event was held in memory of longtime social justice advocate and El Centro de la Raza founder Roberto Maestas, who passed away in 2010.
After a series of troubling incidents involving questionable use of force, the ACLU-WA mobilized 34 other civil rights and community-based organizations in seeking an investigation into whether Seattle police have engaged in a pattern or practice of excessive use of force and biased policing. A preliminary inquiry convinced the DOJ that a full-scale investigation was warranted; the investigation is ongoing.

I am writing to voice my concern about overbroad FBI investigative authorities, which the FBI is using to investigate innocent Americans and map communities based on racial stereotypes and suspicion without evidence.
Under existing FBI authority, the FBI is permitted to engage in racial and ethnic profiling in certain contexts, and there is growing evidence that it is unconstitutionally targeting American communities for investigation based upon their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or political beliefs and activities protected under the First Amendment.
My fiance is being racially discriminated against/incarcerated
My fiance is currently incarcerated in a small jail in Walla Walla, wa where the population is primarily white supremecist. They have the tattoos to prove it. He is the only black man in the jail and the guards are always calling him porch monkey and keeping his mail. Also they are fabricating false charges against him, such as tampering with the locks, just so they can keep him in the hole longer and try and take away his good time. They are putting all the white supremecist in the same cell as him on purpose, trying to intimidate him and scare him. There is also a guard that tells racist stories and says him Uncle is one of the leaders of the KKK. What can we do about this?
